Davidson Officials Consider Moratorium on New Development | 06-25-2007
Reprinted from the Lake Norman Times, by Adam Beeson Construction in one of the fastest-growing towns near Lake Norman may soon be put to a halt. On June 12, the Davidson Town Board held a public hearing regarding a proposed year-long moratorium that would eliminate new development along Davidson-Concord Road and some of N.C. 73. The moratorium, town planner Lauren Blackburn said, would allow Davidson to develop a small area plan for the large amount of open acreage available between East Rocky River Road and Ramah Church Road on the west side of town. During the moratorium, the towns of Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville would consult with experts on growth - traffic studies, safety on the road, zoning studies and the demand of housing - in the area. The first step in that process occurred in the middle of May, when the town sent letters to property owners along the affected areas notifying them of the potential halt to new development. The town board, Blackburn said, is likely to take action on the moratorium in July, once they have had the time to digest citizen concerns. http://thelakepaper.com/articles/2007/06/20/news/news003.txt
